Frequently asked questions
DayCover
DayCover is a temporary insurance platform. With DayCover you can take out insurance to drive any car (even if you are not the owner) and for as long as you need.
This way, you can borrow a friend’s or family member’s car, drive a rental car or insure your own car, from 24 hours to 30 days.
Plus, the better you drive, the less you’ll pay for your DayCover insurance.
Contracting
You will need to have the vehicle’s technical data sheet (ITV card) and registration certificate for the vehicle you want to insure, your driving licence, your ID or NIE and your credit or debit card.
You do not need to send us a copy of any of these documents, although we may ask for them if you have an accident or we need to carry out additional checks.
Yes, the entire process is completed in the DayCover app, from calculating the price, paying for the policy or checking your score and trips. If you need technical help, you can write to us here: clientes@daycover.es
In the DayCover app itself, when you finish taking out your DayCover insurance, you will need to pay by card. You can use a debit or credit card and your bank may ask you to authorise the payment before processing it.
App
You will receive a welcome email with a link to download the app. Once you have downloaded it, you must register with your email address and create a password.
Yes. The app is what records your driving, so if you uninstall the app, do not set the permissions correctly or leave your phone at home or switched off, it will not be able to record correctly. If your app does not record, you will be charged the most expensive DayCover rate, so make sure you configure the permissions when you take out your insurance.
The DayCover app activates when it detects a trip and measures speed, smoothness and distractions at the wheel. This data is only used to measure your driving and is not shared publicly.
Yes, you will need to download the DayCover app again and enter the username and password you created at the time. If you do not remember them, follow the username or password recovery steps shown on the app’s home page. You will also need to configure the app permissions again.
Score
The DayCover app collects and sends us information about your driving style. It measures factors such as speed, acceleration, braking, direction changes and distractions from mobile phone use. Our systems then process that data and calculate an average score. You can check your score and see the detail of each trip in the “Driving” section of your App.
If you have taken out a daily temporary insurance policy and your score is low (a score in red), you will be paying the highest price for your DayCover insurance and if you have historically only had low scores, you risk not being able to continue taking out DayCover insurance.
The DayCover app collects information from each car trip, generating a score based on the smoothness factors (braking, acceleration and cornering), speed and distractions at the wheel.
To calculate the score for cornering, braking and acceleration, the frequency and severity of these records per kilometre travelled will be checked. The range used in the driving score is 10 to 100. Higher scores correspond to smoother driving.
Speed measures the speed in km/h reached by the vehicle. Every minute our system takes a reading of the car’s speed and the speed limit of the road it is travelling on. The range used in the driving score is 10 to 100. Higher scores correspond to a speed appropriate to the type of road.
Distractions at the wheel refer to using the phone while driving. They are measured taking into account the speed at which you are travelling, the type of distraction and the duration of the distraction.
– Receiving or making a call using a hands-free system while the vehicle is stationary is the least serious
– Using the phone’s loudspeaker during a call has medium severity
– Directly interacting with the phone, touching the screen, is the most serious
The duration of the trip and factors such as the time of day or the type of road being travelled on are also taken into account.
Trips
You can view each individual trip, whether you were the driver or passenger, the score obtained and any negative events in the “Driving” section of your DayCover app.
The first thing you should check is whether all permissions are correctly enabled, by accessing the ‘Permissions’ section of the DayCover app menu. The minimum permissions that must be enabled on the phone throughout the validity of the policy are:
– Access to precise location or Location with exact location
– Access to Physical Activity detection
– Access to Phone Activity
– Allow Notifications
– Access to Battery Saving or Optimisation
You can contact us by writing to soportetecnico@daycover.es
Only trips made by the driver will be scored. The app will automatically detect whether the person recording the trip is the driver or a passenger.
If the app has incorrectly detected you as “Driver” or “Passenger”, you have 7 days to change it in the app itself. Go to the “Driving” section, select the trip you want to change and tap the pencil icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
While you are driving, the app records data about the trip through the signals it receives from GPS satellites. After each trip, the app uses Wi-Fi (if available) or mobile data to automatically upload all accumulated trip data to the servers where the data is processed. If no mobile connection is available at the time, the data upload will remain on hold until the phone regains that connection.
